Dr. Sandeep Attawar is one of India’s leading cardiothoracic surgeons and a recognized expert in the field of heart and lung transplantation. Over his career, he has participated in over 10,000 open and closed heart surgeries, over 300 heart and lung transplants in adults, and over two dozen LVAD implants. During COVID, he completed over 26 double-lung transplants—one of the highest numbers in the world—as of August 2021. He has performed a variety of complex cardiac procedures on patients of any age, from neonates to octogenarians. Those under his care enjoy a high level of satisfaction that is in line with his exceptional results.

Dr. Attawar has accumulated extensive expertise in starting successful cardiac units from the bottom up, having done so on four separate occasions over the two decades. His work during this period has involved healthcare giants such as Narayana Hrudayalaya, Apollo Hospitals, the Global Hospitals India Group, and Fortis Healthcare. 

Dr. Attawar is also an active member of international cardiothoracic forums such as the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (ISMICS), International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), the Minimally Invasive Robotic Association (MIRA), Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), and the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS). He has had work published in leading journals such as the Annals of Thoracic Surgery (ATS) and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic Disease. He is also a member of the international faculty on the ISHLT I2C2 committee that spearheads policies on mechanically assisted circulatory therapies. As a proctor for HM3, Jarvik 2000, and Reliant Heart, he is involved in advancing the field of mechanically assisted circulation using Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs).
