Cardiac Surgery Adult and Pediatric
Dr. Sandeep Attawar is among India’s foremost cardiothoracic surgeons as well as the Head and Founding Director of Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic Organ Transplantation at the Fortis Memorial Research institute (FMRI) in Gurgaon, Haryana. As a surgeon, Dr. Attawar is recognized for his exceptional surgical skill and range, having performed well over 10,000 surgeries on both adult and pediatric patients. Those under Dr. Attawar’s care benefit from the highest level of medical care and outcomes, and their satisfaction is only one of several reasons why Dr. Attawar has been handed the reins of prestigious cardiac departments by giants of Indian healthcare.
In recent years, Dr. Attawar has expanded his surgical repertoire to organ transplantation, having performed several successful heart and lung transplants, and use of novel technologies such as remotely-monitored LVADs (Left Ventricular Assist Device), the only ones of their kind successfully used in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Dr. Attawar also participates actively in the cardiothoracic community as a contributing editor for the peer-reviewed Journal of Thoracic Disease and a board member of the International Council for Mechanical Circulatory Support at the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation). Dr. Attawar is also currently on the Scientific Advisory Committee for Reliant Heart Inc.
Yet despite his professional obligations, Dr. Attawar remains committed to a number of humanitarian causes that are close to his heart. He is on the board of the “Being Human” foundation, the Afghanistan Red Cross Society and an active member of ICORE, a Minneapolis-based NGO that performs surgeries on children in Africa with severe heart conditions. In just the past three years, Dr. Attawar has contributed his skill to saving the lives of over 1,000 individuals, mostly children, through pro bono surgeries.
